United Methodist Disaffiliation
Montgomery Methodist Church chose to disaffiliate from the United Methodist Church to maintain its commitment to traditional Methodist beliefs. A primary driver for this decision is the unwavering belief in the Bible as the ultimate authority for our church's doctrine and practices. We felt a need to separate to ensure our adherence to these foundational theological principles, which we perceived to be diverging within the broader UMC. This move allows our Montgomery Methodist Church family to uphold our historical understanding of Methodism without being subject to more post-modern interpretations or new age stances within the United Methodist Denomination as it relates to the biblical sanctity of marriage and human sexuality.
